students from Mrs. Brown-Dunham's photography classes, reached the Bang Sak School/Lacapachanukchok 35 in Thailand. The Bang Sak School was destroyed by the December 2004 tsunami and is trying to raise money to rebuild the school.

Meanwhile, classes for the 122 student PK-9 school are being held in a temporary structure called Lacapachanukchok 35. Fourteen of the school's students lost one or both of their parents due to the tsunami. Thank you to everyone for supporting the event and for extending your aloha to our friends abroad.

  The Teen Center Team

Teen Center
Above: Ms. Colby, Ms. Fujiyama & Ms. Vaouli-Tugi counsel, educate,
and to promote healthy lifestyles.

The Teen Center wishes social worker Ms. Sue Vaouli-Tugi the best in her future endeavors. The Teen Center is made up of Ms. Debbie Fujiyama, who serves as our public health nurse and Ms. Alison Colby, a social worker.

The Teen Center has helped to reshape and rewrite the 9th grade Hale Guidance curriculum. This past summer, the Teen Center overhauled the Advisory Program, creating a manual of guidance activities and lessons, unique for each of the four grade levels.

The Teen Center continues to offer Anger Management Support Groups now open to any student. The Peer Mediation Program continues to operate at full speed: early this year, the Teen Center staff trained 40 new mediators, who are ready to help other students resolve their conflicts peacefully. So far, our mediators have handled over 25 cases. In addition, several of our mediators spent two afternoons at Kalihi Elementary School this year, helping to train some of their students in conflict management.

Since last year, the Teen Center has also been co-advising – with counselor Ms. Marianne Honda – the BLEST Gs Club. Meanwhile, Ms. Fujiyama offers as stop-smoking class for students interested in quitting the habit.

Located in J278, the Teen Center is available to any student or parent for individual consultation, counseling or other assistance.
