Mrs. Cindy Werkmeister
School Strategic Plan Coordinator
Every year the state requires all public schools to give the Hawaii State Assessment in Reading, Math and Science. Over 600 sophomores are scheduled to take the test. If your child is a sophomore, make sure s/he gets to bed early to be rested for testing, eats a healthy breakfast and comes to school on time. Our cafeteria is open for breakfast daily from 7:25 am and the cost is only 95 cents. In order to comply with testing times, there will be no recess on certain testing days. Testing begins on March 29th and ends on April 22nd. A calendar of the testing times and dates will be posted on our school website – FarringtonHighSchool.org – prior to testing.
Your child's scores will be sent to you in an individual report some time next school year. We will get our school results in July. These results will determine the school's restructuring status. Our faculty and students have been working hard to prepare for these tests. Over the years we have shown improvement in both areas. Last year we exceeded the state benchmark of 58% in reading, but fell short of the state benchmark of 44% set for math. We are hopeful that this class will continue to progress and show others that Farrington students can achieve at high levels. If you have any questions regarding this assessment, please contact our testing coordinator, Bruce Hirotsu at bruce_hirotsu [AT] notes.k12.hi.us.

Farrington High School robotics students, Alumni Travis Takashima and Jorge Portillo, and their Coach Bebi Davis ran a bridge building workshop on October 24, 2009 at Punahou School for students in grades 4 and above, parents and teachers of any grade level or subject. This was at the 8th annual celebration and special day honoring the life and legacy of Charles Lacy Veach, who grew up in Honolulu with an interest in science, had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force and went on to fly two Space Shuttle missions.

Deciding that the only way to truly experience history was to see it first-hand, 14 Health Academy seniors embarked on a non-Academy sponsored field trip to Washington, DC this past March. The whirlwind five-day tour, arranged through Smithsonian Student Travel and heavily subsidized by the Farrington Alumni Community Foundation, took them to a multitude of museums, memorials, and of course, our nation’s capitol.
