JROTC Instructor
A "TEAM" of 32 Cadets represented the Governors the “Farrington Way” this past Saturday (30 January) at the Kaimuki High School West Point Drill Meet Competition.
Congratulations to Sweet-Angel Figuracion and her Color Guard Team – Stacy Montero, Vincent Hanuna and Ave Sevidal – for capturing the First Place title in the Color Guard Event and to the Demilitarized Armed Exhibition Team composed of Gino Galope, Ivann Velasco, Erickson Tabucol, Justin Kealanahele, Ave Sevidal and Vincent Hanuna for placing Second overall. “Big Mahalo” to Cadet Krister Antolin for providing background support for the Team.
A “SUPER CONGRATULATIONS” to both Cadets Ave Sevidal and Vincent Hanuna for winning the title as the “Best of the Best” for both the Solo and Duet Demilitarized Armed Exhibition TEAM in Hawaii. Both Cadets will represent Farrington High and the State of Hawaii at the National High School Drill Team Competition in Orlando, Florida this May. When asked if both Ave and Vince will win the National High School Drill Championship title, I'd say their response would be, "We're going to Disney Land!" Congratulate them and wish them the best.
“GREAT JOB” to all Cadets who participated, and a Super Big Mahalo to the Kealanahele Family for doing the cooking. Their great moral support kept the Cadets and the Instructors motivated through the whole competition.
What's next? The Great Aloha Run, China Town Parade and the JROTC Annual Basketball Tournament at Kalaheo High School. The JROTC Department will also host a fundraising event for our “Best of the Best” to defray the cost of the Orlando trip. More to follow…

Mr. Pete Shimazaki Doktor, FHS TeacherFHS Slam's Club Advisor
The Farrington High School Poetry Crew elevates poetry from page to the stage, to uplift and connect students, audience and the community through the amplification of spoken word to transmit thoughts, feelings and experiences. The vision & art of poetry is the elimination of space between poet and audience, elevating both towards new possibilities of thinking, understanding, expression, creativity, empowerment, healing and connection.

“Have you dug the spill
Of Kalihi Hill?
Cast your gims
On this sepia thrill” *
Kalihi’s T-Shirt Theatre enlivens the stage with rich shades of brown in this delightful and provocative performance, “LANGSTON who?” celebrating the life and work of African American poet Langston Hughes.
Our young Kalihi performers take us down a road that zigzags its way between social injustice and empowering proclamations, reminding us in the end to “hold fast to dreams.”
The performance is punctuated with several musical numbers reminiscent of Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Eubie Blake and black-face vaudevillian Bert Williams.
Langston Hughes is credited as one of the earliest innovators of jazz poetry, which is characterized by syncopated rhythms and repetitive phrases and developed concurrently with jazz music during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 30s.
What: T-Shirt Theatre’s “LANGSTON who?”
When: Friday, October 30 ~ 7:30pm & Sunday, November 1 ~ 4:30pm
Where: Farrington High School Auditorium, 1564 N. King Street
Free. T-Shirt Theatre is a project of the Alliance for Drama Education, a non-profit organization in its 30th year, in collaboration with Farrington High School. For more information, call 220-5003 or look us up at www.rehearseforlife.com.
