Many seniors from various academies and departments at Farrington High School are presenting their senior projects this spring to a panel of judges comprised of educational specialists and community members. In addition to presenting, students demonstrate their learning by submitting portfolios that contain their research paper, reflective journal, community contact forms and supporting artifacts.
Farrington Students Place at Science Olympiad

Farrington students competed at the 2nd Hawaii Science Olympiad at Leeward Community College on March 4, 2006, against two teams from Mililani High School. Events included a catapult launch, tower building, computer, forensics food science, physics, and circuit labs, rock and mineral identification, and a descriptive writing and construction activity. Farrington students took 2 gold medals, for the trebuchet and the physics lab. Everyone took home at least one medal. Congratulations to the science department and to all those who helped.
Governor Pride Celebrated at 70/30 Festivities

Alumni and friends celebrated Governor pride at the 70/30 festivity on Saturday, February 25, 2006. The year 2006 marks Farrington High School's 70th birthday and the Farrington Alumni & Community Foundation's 30th year. Farrington alumni and other organizations on campus fundraised various foods and items in the amphitheater. Room A-106 held items and pictures from years before including cheerleading uniforms and Gov football gear. The student government also provided support by opening the Gov shop and selling FHS souvenirs.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Kennedy Facilitates Student Forum

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy facilitated a discussion with a student panel in Farrington High School's auditorium on February 7, 2006. Students discussed topics including democracy and their views of America's role in international affairs. U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Myron Bright also participated in the forum.

The restoration of the 1934 oil portrait of Governor Wallace Rider Farrington by Frank Gordon "Chad" Chadwick was unveiled in the library on January 20, 2006. The portrait was restored by Edward Y.W. Li and was remounted with a linen border and a koa frame and encased in plexiglass. The Class of FHS Fabulous '57 and FACF financed the cost of the project. Alfred Torco, FACF Historian and the FHS librarians collaborated on the archival project (Historical information was provided by Marybeth Webber of the Honolulu Academy of Arts).

Alliance for Drama Education Unleashes Claws!

Farrington's Bebi Davis Wins Milken Educator Award

Farrington science teacher Bebi Davis was awarded the 2005 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award at a surprise assembly on Wednesday, October 27, 2005. Ms. Davis was recognized for her dedication to her students and her exemplary physics program that sets high standards and expectations for all students.
Meet Farrington's PCNC Parent Facilitator

Ms. Sao is Farrington's new Parent-Community Networking Center (PCNC) Parent Facilitator. Among her many responsibilities, she facilitates the building and strengthening of FHS's caring network of partners and to make FHS a welcoming place. Farrington Receives Six Year WASC Accreditation
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) announced that
the Accrediting Commission for Schools granted Farrington High School with
a six-year term of accreditation with a midterm review expiring on June 30,

Outstanding Career & Technical Education Programs

were recognized for their "Outstanding" Community Based Instruction - Occupational
Skills Program.
On May 13, 2005, Farrington H.S. educators were presented with two distinctions at the 2005 Hawaii Association for Career & Technical Education Scholarships and Award Banquet. First, Farrington's Community Based Instruction - Occupational Skills Program was awarded the "Outstanding Secondary Career and Technical Education Program". In addition, Farrington's Accounting Program under Mr. Kawahara was recognized for collaborating with Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union. The credit union was awarded the "Exemplary Business/Labor Involvement of the Year" for providing weekly credit union services and education on the FHS campus.

Farrington H.S. students took home the "Best of Show" award, the silver and bronze medals in the Hawaii State Culinary Expo held at Kapiolani Community College on April 30, 2005. The students competed with students from KCC,
West Hawaii, Kauai Community College, and Konawaena. Congratulations on a job well done!
The Governor: Best Overall Newspaper

SMART Professional Development with Angela Maiers

Literacy consultant Angela Maiers spent the entire week inservicing FHS faculty how to teach "SMART" reading/thinking strategies. Ms. Maiers works with school districts across the nation and has worked with many schools in Hawaii.
Jackie's Kitchen Partners-up for School-wide Fundraiser

Jackie's Kitchen of Honolulu has partnered with Farrington H.S. in an exclusive school-wide fundraising effort through $20 Jackie's Kitchen gift cards. Each student was given the opportunity to fundraise. Ms. Jessica Araiza has been working with Student Activities Coordinator Ms. Ellis and others to spearhead the campaign.
Alumnus Sponsors Over 110 for Great Aloha Run

This year, Farrington alumnus Clyde Kaneshiro sponsored over 110 Farrington students, faculty and staff to participate in the 21st Annual Great Aloha Run (GAR) that was held on February 21, 2005. Kaneshiro along with GAR event founder Carole Kai voiced the importance of perseverance and setting goals in life during an assembly in the auditorium. For more information on the GAR, click here.
Physics Students Garner Awards at Engineering Expo 2005

Congratulations to all the FHS Physics students who competed in this year's Engineering Expo at the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The students were awarded with four trophies. Robot-Battle Bot Competition (1st and 3rd Place), Bottle Rocket Competition (1st Place) and the Egg-Drop Competition (2nd Place).

held on Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 in the Library at 7p.m.
Issues discussed included the background behind Act 51, the purpose, responsibilities, and roles of the SCC, the composition of the SCC and timeline

Career Day Invites Students to Explore The "Real" World

Over 200 presenters and speakers converged to the Farrington campus to impart their "real" world wisdom to students on January 13, 2005. Exhibitors packed the front lawn and the gym while speakers from a multitude of careers generously gave their time to share their experiences and advice in classroom sessions. Mayor Mufi Hannemann Shares Insight with Students

On December 7, 2004, recently elected City & County of Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann met with students to discuss the impact his parents, education and growing up in Kalihi had on his life. In addition, Mayor-elect Hannemann shared his reasons for pursuing public service and encouraged students to become active leaders in the community.

The Alliance for Drama Education (ADE) celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a
T-Shirt Theatre performance "Just Like Me", a dra-musical about an adventuresome teacher who changes the course of five students' lives.
T-Shirt Theatre performed for elementary schools, Kalakaua Middle, FHS,
and two Friday night public audiences. Thank you to all participants and supporters, congratulations ADE on your 25th Anniversary!
Visionaries Inspire Students to Tell Their Stories

Chris Lee, Chair of the University of Hawaii Academy for Creative Media (ACM) and Robert Olague, Executive Producer for the Hawaii Student Film Festival (HSFF) emphasized the value of producing captivating and poignant stories.
