JROTC Leadership Academy

By Dr. Kimberly Kepner-Sybounmy, PhD.
Innovative Education Consulting
Additional content provided by Colonel David Carlson, Chairperson – JROTC Leadership Academy

The JROTC Leadership Academy is a two-year program aimed at preparing students for post-secondary studies in any career field – in or out of the military. Through field trips, in-depth class projects, senior projects and work-study, students will gain the knowledge and understanding needed to determine their career interests. Cadets will have the opportunity to join the JROTC club on campus and participate in numerous competitions, performances and volunteer through community service projects.

The mission of the JROTC Leadership Academy is to motivate young people to be better citizens. The program's outstanding curriculum is designed to have students examine and develop qualities of leadership, citizenship and character while fostering partnerships with the Farrington community and educational institutions.

The program incorporates principles of mental and physical wellness. The curriculum provides for an in-depth understanding of physical and political geography, builds global awareness and relates events in U.S. history to choices and responsibilities Americans have today.

The leadership program enjoys a collaborative partnership with various branches of the military. Throughout the year, the JROTC Leadership Academy will host outstanding speakers who share their views on leadership and citizenship.

Academy cadets will work on integrated projects focused around the leadership and citizenship curriculum. Together with the English and social studies classes, students will develop the skills necessary to enter the work force, find further training in the military or go on to college upon graduation from high school.

This program is for anyone. If you're looking to see what the military is like or just belong to this mind blowing club, you'll experience it here in class, camps, and all the extra activities they offer. This club makes you belong amongst the rest of your classmates who just like you in the beginning, didn't know which club to choose. JROTC is not only challenging and fun, it's rewarding to you in your future endeavors and especially getting you ready for life after high school, be it in the military, college or into the workforce. I hope you won't miss out on this great high school experience which I already missed so much!! And just like the comment above, the people and instructors (teachers) are super cool. CLASS OF '06!! FORMER S-2 & COA 1SGT..
